Now in it’s 4th year, the North Carolina Golf Classic has collectively raised nearly $600,000 in support of the American Cancer Society’s mission to improve the lives of people living with cancer and their families through advocacy, research, and patient support to ensure everyone has an opportunity to prevent, detect, treat and survive cancer. This premier golf tournament continues to help fund the lifesaving work of the American Cancer Society and would not be possible without the generosity and support of our corporate sponsors, volunteer Executive Committee, donors, players, event volunteers and partnering organizations. At the American Cancer Society, we’re on a mission to end cancer as we know it, for everyone. Until we do, we’ll be funding life-saving research, sharing expert information, supporting patients, and spreading the word about prevention and screening.
It is an honor to be associated with the American Cancer Society. I am grateful to be a part of this year’s event because it allows me the opportunity to contribute directly to the fight against cancer, making a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals and families affected by this disease.
LeadershipAfter accidents, cancer is the second leading cause of death in children ages 1 to 14. Because of major treatment advances in recent decades, 85% of children with cancer now survive 5 years or more. Still, survival rates can vary a great deal depending on the type of cancer and other factors. The American Cancer Society uses a comprehensive approach to working to end childhood cancer as we know it, for everyone, by leveraging our unique strengths in funding the best research; publishing the most current trends in childhood cancer occurrence and survival; providing information on symptoms, early detection, treatment and support for children with cancer and their families; and working to improve the quality of life for childhood cancer patients and survivors.
